Volunteers
Volunteers are always needed across the county to help S.A.B. in its vital work with visually impaired people.
By becoming a Volunteer Visitor YOU could hold the key to someone’s independence.
How?
It may be something as simple as threading a needle. Some of the things that sighted people take for granted can be a major cause of concern for a visually impaired person, for example:
- Sewing on a button
- Filling in forms
- Reading labels, letters
- Attending the Post Office
- Pouring a cup of tea
- Paying bills
- Using a microwave
- Telling the time
You may only befriend an individual by calling to have a chat and a cup of tea, your help could give someone extra confidence to lead a more fulfilled life.
How much time will it take?
This is your decision. You tell us how much time you can realistically offer on a regular basis. (A minimum of one hour a fortnight is the baseline)
Who can be a volunteer?
Almost anyone can be a Volunteer!
You may be retired but still want to use your work experience or to meet new people and learn new things.
You may be unemployed seeking work but want to use your time to its best advantage.
You may have time on your hands now your children are at school or have grown up and left home.
What‘s in it for me?
The opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
The chance to make a difference to the quality of someone’s life
The opportunity to gain new skills
Being part of a caring team enabling a visually impaired person in Somerset.
As an S.A.B. volunteer, you would receive full training and support with the opportunity to gain further knowledge.
